With some folks still anxious about traveling abroad, I wanted to highlight a great stateside option for that tropical getaway vacation- the Florida Keys. My family and I have been spending Christmas down here for the last few years. We just love the laid back, relaxed vibe you get while you are down there living on island time. And while I could totally sit on the beach with a good book and a drink all day- I also love exploring!

For those travelling with kiddos, the Florida Keys Aquarium Encounters is a must! The open-air aquarium features marine species of all shapes in sizes in environments that closely mimic those found naturally in the Florida Keys. You can feed the stingrays, touch a starfish, or even snorkel in the coral reef tank with the sharks! I definitely recommend a couple of hours to explore here!

Another popular stop along the Keys is Robbie’s in Islamorada. This is a great spot to grab lunch, rent jet-skis, or go kayaking through the mangroves. Those who are brave (or crazy) enough, can even hand feed the massive tarpon from the dock!

For all of you fishing enthusiasts, you will want to check out the fishing charters in Marathon, located in the heart of the Keys. In-shore, off-shore, shark, and reef fishing trips are available for your family or group. Our large family group chartered two boats for some in-shore fishing. We caught our limit of snapper, then had it cooked up for dinner at the Lighthouse Grill right there at the dock. Talk about fresh seafood! Yum! :)

During our most recent trip down to Marathon, I was talked into taking one of those helicopter flights over the islands. I was nervous at first, but the views were incredible! It was a good reminder that I need to push myself out of my comfort zone and try new things when we travel- I recommend you do the same no matter where your travels take you!
